Who files the form?

Solo401k.com is proud to offer our 1099-R generator for Roth conversions. This includes moving funds from:

  • Pre-tax to Roth

  • After-Tax to Roth

In our first year offering the 1099-R generator, we are only preparing 1099-R filings for Roth conversions. If you require a 1099-R for a Required Minimum Distribution RMD) or normal distribution from yoru Solo 401k, your CPA will need to assist in preparation of this form.

Where do I file the 1099-R for a Roth conversion?

If you have an active Solo 401k plan, we'll file IRS form 1099-R for you for assets held in your Nabers Group Solo 401k.

You must submit your form by January 25th for the previous year's conversions (if you miss the Jan. 25th deadline, you will need to work with your CPA to complete the filing.

1099-R Generator FAQs

  1. Where do I find the 1099-R Generator: https://app.solo401k.com/1099r

  2. What’s the deadline to submit the form online: January 25th at 5 pm ET. Submissions received after that date will not be included in the January 31st filing.

  3. Can I use the 1099-R generator for RMDs or normal distributions? Not yet! In our first year offering the 1099-R generator, we are only preparing 1099-R filings for Roth conversions.

  4. I made a mistake. Should I fill out the form again? You may fill out the form again, but you must email our team at [email protected] with your corrected filing information. Duplicate submissions will be ignored.

  5. I forgot to do a filing for a 2022 conversion. Can I just submit this form and do the 1099-R for 2022? The 1099-R generator is for 2023 Roth conversions and 2023 filings only.

  6. I had some growth on my after-tax funds. Should I still do this form? No, our current iteration of the 1099-R generator assumes there is zero (0) growth on after-tax funds at time of conversion. If your after-tax funds had growth or profit, please work with your CPA to ensure a correct IRS filing.

  7. My spouse needs to file a 1099-R. How can I complete the filing for them?

    The 1099-R generator is for each participant. If your spouse needs to file the 1099-R, please have them log into their own portal at app.Solo401k.com/1099r to complete the filing. They can access the portal at app.Solo401k.com/login

  8. I converted an amount that included dollars and cents (for example $10,500.53), your generator does not allow for cents to be included. How can I submit the correct amount?

    Please email our team at [email protected] and include the exact amount you need to be reflected on your 1099R.

  9. I did 2 Roth conversions in 2023. How many times should I fill out the form? Please fill out the form one time per tax treatment only. Duplicate submissions will be ignored. Example #1:

  • March 15, 2023 $2500 conversion Pre-Tax to Roth

  • November 8, 2023 $15000 conversion from Pre-Tax to Roth

  • ONE filing (since both conversions were the same tax treatment

    Example #2:

  • February 19, 2023 $1,800 conversion from Pre-Tax to Roth

  • October 31, 2023 $36,500 conversion from After-Tax to Roth

  • TWO filings, since each conversion was a separate tax treatment
