Prepare for your Filing
Have the following ready before you begin your filing:
Copy of the Reporting Company EIN letter (you will need the tax ID number for the report)
Copy of your driver's license or passport uploaded to your computer (you will need to upload a copy as part of the filing)
Getting Started
Navigate your internet browser to https://boiefiling.fincen.gov/
Choose "File BOIR" to continue with the online filing
Click "Prepare & Submit BOIR" to file online (free)
Click "Initial report" if this is the first BOIR filed for your entity. Then click "Next"
Part I. Reporting Company Information
You do not need to complete any checkboxes in the first section of Part I
Enter the name of the reporting Company
Choose "EIN" from the drop-down and enter the EIN (tax ID number) for your reporting company
Under "Jurisdiction of formation or first registration", choose United States and the state where your entity was formed/registered
Enter the street address for your reporting company, then click "Next"
Use the same address on your Articles of Organization or Articles of Incorporation. This may be your address (as business owner/LLC manager) or it may be the Registered Agent address. It is OK to list your address.
Part II. Company Applicant Information
You can leave question 16 blank/unchecked
Leave question 18 blank (you probably do not have a FinCen ID)
Enter your legal name and date of birth
Enter the Company address
Use the same address on your Articles of Organization or Articles of Incorporation. This may be your address (as business owner/LLC manager) or it may be the Registered Agent address. It is OK to list your address.
Enter your identification information (usually a driver's license)
You will need to upload a copy of your driver's license or other identification document so have this ready before you start the reporting process.
Part III. Beneficial Owner Information
Leave question 35 blank unless you are completing the report on behalf of a minor child
Leave question 36 blank unless you have a FinCen ID for the beneficial owner of the Company (this is not common)
Leave question 37 blank
Enter the Legal name and date of birth of the beneficial owner (you)
Input the residential address for the beneficial owner (you)
Enter your identification information (usually a driver's license), then click "Next"
If your business has more than one beneficial owner, you can add their information as well and follow the same steps as for beneficial owner #1
Submit Your Completed Filing
Enter the email and full name of the submitting party, in case FinCen has any follow-up requests.
You will not receive a copy of the submission from FinCen. The ONLY time you can download the filing is right after you submit the form. Please save a copy of the filing to your computer. There is no other opportunity to get a copy for your records.
